I'VE GOT A '97 M/C LS, 3.1L W/ 4T60E TRANNY. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AN AUCTION W/ NO TEST DRIVE. AFTER FINALIZING THE TRANSACTION, I LEARNED THAT THE TRANNY WOULD START OFF IN 2ND GEAR. I DROVE IT TO A LOCAL TRANS SHOP. THEY SAID MY ECM WAS BAD
. I FOUND IT HARD TO BELIEVE BECAUSE THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT.
AFTER SEARCHING "4T60E" ON THE WEB FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, I CAME ACROSS

. I USED THE WIRING DIAGRAMS POSTED HERE TO TEST THE 1-2 SHIFT SOLENOID, AND FOUND IT TO BE FAULTY. I PURCHASED A NEW SOLENOID, AND HAVE YET TO INSTALL IT.
I WILL BE TACKELING THIS JOB TOMORROW, BUT WOULD FIRST LIKE TO ASK YOU EXPERTS IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON REMOVING THE PAN AND REPLACING THE SOLENOID. I "EYEBALLED" IT, AND IT LOOKS POSSIBLE TO PULL THE PAN WITH THE TRANNY IN THE CAR. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS? ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED
ANOTHER QUESTION. WHAT IS THE STRONGEST NON-ELECTRIC SHIFT AUTO TRANNY FOR THE FWD 60DV6? I WAS TOLD A T-440. ARE THERE DIFFERENT GEAR RATIOS IN DIFFERENT BODIES? IS THE MONTE CARLO A "W" BODY?
