    ALOHA~

FIRST OF ALL, A BIG THANK YOU FOR THE 4T60E DIAGRAMS/INFO POSTED HERE. THEY HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL.

I'VE GOT A '97 M/C LS, 3.1L W/ 4T60E TRANNY. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AN AUCTION W/ NO TEST DRIVE. AFTER FINALIZING THE TRANSACTION, I LEARNED THAT THE TRANNY WOULD START OFF IN 2ND GEAR. I DROVE IT TO A LOCAL TRANS SHOP. THEY SAID MY ECM WAS BAD . I FOUND IT HARD TO BELIEVE BECAUSE THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT.

AFTER SEARCHING "4T60E" ON THE WEB FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, I CAME ACROSS www.60degreev6.com . I USED THE WIRING DIAGRAMS POSTED HERE TO TEST THE 1-2 SHIFT SOLENOID, AND FOUND IT TO BE FAULTY. I PURCHASED A NEW SOLENOID, AND HAVE YET TO INSTALL IT.

I WILL BE TACKELING THIS JOB TOMORROW, BUT WOULD FIRST LIKE TO ASK YOU EXPERTS IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON REMOVING THE PAN AND REPLACING THE SOLENOID. I "EYEBALLED" IT, AND IT LOOKS POSSIBLE TO PULL THE PAN WITH THE TRANNY IN THE CAR. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS? ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED

ANOTHER QUESTION. WHAT IS THE STRONGEST NON-ELECTRIC SHIFT AUTO TRANNY FOR THE FWD 60DV6? I WAS TOLD A T-440. ARE THERE DIFFERENT GEAR RATIOS IN DIFFERENT BODIES? IS THE MONTE CARLO A "W" BODY?

AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE INFO. I SPEND A LOT OF TIME WORKING ON 1ST GEN MAZDA MPV'S, BUT AM GOING BACK TO MY CHEVY ROOTS. IF ANYONE HERE HAS ANY Q'S ON THE MPV, GO TO www.mpvclub.com, I AM "GEN1HAWAII".

    ALOHA

ya its possible to pull the side pan in the car, u can pull all the internals out to. u ahve to drop the cradle and let that side of the trans hang down a few inchs. make sure u support the engine from the top.

the t440 is a 440t4/4t60 the 4 stand for the amount of gears the T is transverse mount and the 60 is the strength so the 4T65E would be the strongest

i have not seen anything stronger than the 4T60 for nonelectronic besides the f7 for the 4.5 in the caddy allente

Well in strenth...I heard that the 440-t4 from a Turbo Grand Prix is strong as heck. Almost like a 4t65ehd. I've head that the F7 is a modified 440-t4 like the Turbo Grand Prix trans.

Theres a place where they rebuild a 440-t4 to handle close to 600hp. But cost about $3K. Well worth it. rebuild onece I always say.

side cover is a snap. i can do em in an hour. of course, i work in a trans. shop, so i do em all day long. i couldn't tell ya about the build aspect though. that's what we have builders for. lol. doin a side cover @ home i would imagine would be a PITA though. i have cars up in the air and work from underneath. if you can do it this way, it'll be much easier and save lots of time. also, won't have to support engine from up above, just use a T- stand and block of wood under oil pan. don't have to completely drop cradle. just loosen both passenger side cradle bolts and remove both drivers side cradle bolts. be sure to remove ALL mount nuts underneath car. would be wise to remove the two big steering rack nuts or bolt/nut combo. to drop cradle on drivers side, disconect lower ball joint. you will want the cradle to swing down as far as you can get it to go. then lower T-stand or jack down till you can reach the side cover bolts and have enuff clearance to remove pan.
