yea looks like they wanted a hurth handle so they hacked off the stock one and welded another peice onto it. i would have done the same thing, just done it "cleaner"

Yep.. atleast you have a threadded bar now.. you can install a better handle.
I've got a Hurst white 5 pattern ball on mine.. i love it.
