  • Rebuild or not to rebuild

I have a 95 T5 5 speed that is going into a 1960 Sunbeam Alpine. The tranny has 95,000 and supposidly, ran great until a telephone pole stopped the car instead of the brakes.
Question: as it is out of the car and sitting in my garage, should I have it reb-build or just drained and cleaned?

If it pulls easy later and the cross brace that holds it up comes out easy, you can save yourself some money and do it later. It costs around $350 for a kit and a professional to put these together, but you'll have to find someone local who does these and get the quote first.

Generally seaking, if the driver knew what they were doing and was easy on it, your good to go for another 100,000. If they were hard on it, it could already be warn out.

What are you doiing for gauges? You should figure this out now so you can determine VSS or cable drive speedo with that 'box.

        Yes,

In the long run, go electrical Speedometer. It costs more to begin with (slightly), but in the end not if but WHEN you change tire size, axle ratio or something else, you can just flip switches. The cable type requires a calibration or correction box- either way, more money to spend down the road and more in the long run.
