need getrag 284/282 swap info

my gtp has a 284 in it but it's days are numbered it seems.

it may be wise to research and invest in another and weigh it out versus buying another 284. i am thinking a getrag 282 that uses the neutrally balanced flywheels.

how easy is it to swap them? i take it i will need different cables and shifter? what about the axle lengths, are they the same?

i hear it is impossible to put a 284 in a fiero, so how hard is it to put a 282 in a w-body?

what about the driver's mount? is it the same as the 284?

i also hear there is stuff for the 282 so i can change the gears around to match or exceed the 284's gearing and whatnot.

if you find a w body with a 282 in it, everything is there for the swap. the 282 came behind the quad 4 and 3.1l in the w-bodies. now a quad 4 tranny wont bolt up, however any v6 282 would work.

there are different gear ratios. if you want to change ratios, keep in mind that 1st and 2nd gera must be changed as a pair, same with 3rd and 4th (3rd is the same in all of them anyways, so biggie there). this is due to the design of the tranny. for ratios, have a look at the 282 page on the left.
