  • 5-speed question

Trying to help a friend out here, and I am not certain myself, but he has a Grand Prix with the 5-speed, and he broke the intermediate shaft (between the passenger axle, and the tranny).

There is a local yard here that has a BERETTA with a 2.8 and a 5-speed. Will the intermediate shaft from that work in his 1989 Grand Prix?

I doubt it since the W-bodies are wider than the L-bodies. Best way you be to either look up part numbers online or measure old and donor.

he threw out the old one not realizing what it was. We are hoping that the differance is in the size of the CV SHAFTS and that the intermediate shafts are the SAME.

Worst case senario is we will have to pull it, and try to install it in his car, but I was wanting to find out for a fact first.

hard to say if its the same or not. i have an axle tube and shaft that bolts to the tranny, i got it from a cutlass supreme quad 4 ho, and its the same length as the intermediate shaft that i have on my cavy right now.

I am pretty sure that all the intermediate shafts are the same, and the differances are in the axles themselves, but it is nice to have it confirmed.

Since you are using a Cutlass Supreme one in your caviler, then I think it is safe to say they are the same.

I am going to go tomorrow, and have the yard pull the shaft for him. Nothing ventured nothing gained. If nothing else, I will just shove it up his ass for his stupidity in throwing out the old one.
