  • what clutch to use ?

hey guys i am building a mild 3.1 mpfi to put in my 88 z24 it has a 5 spd and i was thinking on using the fidanza aluminum flywheel but they dont make a clutch kit to match whould i go with a new stock peace or do you guys have any good street performance clutch that would work with this flywheel?

    thanks guys

any clutch with work with that flywheel. i would however recomend against a lightened flywheel unless you are racing more than street driving. the flywheel needs the weight to smooth out the throttle transitions and a light flywheel can make street driving tough.

i run a bulley stage 2 clutch. it feels a bit stiffer than stock and it grabby, but not chattery. it is a full face sintered iron disk, it is not a puck clutch.

bully for sure, i have a stage 4, 4puck sintered iron and it holds 365 ft lbs of torque, and i plan on running 600ft lbs soon, and im pretty damn confident it will hold that

i have driven a couple cars with spec clutches, and i didnt like em. one was a 2001 z24 2.4l with gm supercharger and a stage 2 spec. the pedal was stiff and clutch was way to grabby. it was near impossible to drive it in traffic.

How long has your bully clutch lasted guys? By buddies stage 3 bit the dust at about 40,000kms. Worn out right to the rivets. A freaking joke if you ask me. Yea the clutch drove nice and held alot of power but it sure as hell didn't last long.

From what I herd from a couple transmission guys, Bully clutches always wear out quick.

ive had mine 45k km. mine is a stage 2, its a full faced iron disk. i had the clutch out at 30k km (when i swapped it into my new car). the disk looked like new still and i could still see machining markes on the flywheel. honestly, when i put it in i didnt expect it to go more than 50k km just because of the design, but after looking at it at 30k, i would hope i get more than 100k km on it. and i do race with this clutch. i run drag radials and sidestep the clutch at 4500-5k rpm.

a puck clutch (like the stage 3) is going to wear out quicker. they are designed for racing with the ability to street drive the car. dont expect race stuff to last on the street, its not going to.

on a side note, it also depends on your driving. a co-worker of mine has 287k km on his 97 prelude, stock clutch, not slipping. i had a friend with a 2001 prelude, only got 40k km on it.

                  thats not contradicting at all.

the cars ive driven with spec clutches were all 4 cyl cars. im guessing a v6 is a lot easier to drive with a real grabby clutch due to the amount of torque right off idle in comparison to a 4 cyl.
