  • What tranny fluid goes in my Getrag 282?

    I have an '88 fiero GT with a 2.8 and Getrag 282.
I am low on tranny fluid.
The shop manual I got at the Auto parts storwe says to use 5w-30 motor oil.
The factory manual says to use some special GM stuff (part #12345349) that costs $16 per quart.
I have four of these transmissions and the stuff in them looks like ATF.
    What should I use?

Yeah, go synchromesh, I have read several posts on the Fiero Forum by members who have used it and had a noticeable difference in the transmissions shifting performance.

Is there some place where I can get the GM synchromesh fluid for less than $16 a quart?

some parts stores carry the gm brand of syncromesh. quaker state also makes syncromesh and it can be used in place of the gm syncromesh. the proof behind it is on the side of the nv4500 (in both dodge and chevy trucks) there is a tag that says to use either mopar manual transmission fluid, gm syncromesh or quaker state syncromesh.

i speculate that quaker state makes the syncromech for gm and mopar mtf, as quaker state is the only oil company that makes a product called syncromesh, or a manual trans fluid that says its 100% compatable with gm and mopar fluids.
