  • 95 berretta abs brake help

I took off my master cylinder to get the moter and tranny out anyway its back in and Im getting ready to bleed the brakes. My thought was to get a suction pump and try to manually suck the new fluid in the lines to the brakes. I think that it has absIV am I going to have any problems bleeding the brakes with abs, do I need a abs scanner to open the abs valves up and let the fluid through. I read somewhere that if you drive the car over like 3 mph the check balls in the abs go to the home position and then you bleed after the check balls get in the home position. Am I on the right track with this. thanks for your help.

I've never done brake bleeding any different on an ABS system than you would a normal system and I've never had a problem. I doubt you will have any problems with it.

this car is kicken my ass. now the air bag abs light keeps coming on. what makes all the clicking noise when you start the car for the abs brakes. If you start the car and the abs resets {clicking noise} the light turns off. If the ABS doesnt click at startup the light turns on, But will sometimes go off after you drive half a block. the pedal feels good at all times stops the same. the light turned on then off after half block then back on again before I got home all this in one mile so whatever is going out seams to be getting worse. I dont have a abs/air bag code reader I know some of this abs stuff is pricey so would a abs/air bag code reader be worth the investment or is this a staight forward fix like a abs computer , relay or something. IDK . thanks again for your help. Its a 95 chev berretta with abs IV, v-6

You may need to bleed the air out of the ABS module too. There should be 2 bleed fittings on the module itself. Essentially the same process as bleeding calipers with one person pushing the brakes and the other opening/closing the bleeder screw to prevent back-flow.

when i put the master cylinder back in the car i filled it up with fluid and tried to bleed those 2 you mentioned first but nothing came out so i just went on and bleed the brakes in the order the book specified, it said nothing about bleeding the abs module {haynes not surprising I guess}. I am going to try again tommorro. does the car need to be running while bleeding the abs module. I am going to use a vacum pump or does it need to be manually done. I was just under the impression that if there was air in the brakes i would not be able to get a firm pedal. i have never messed with the brakes like this mostly just normal brake work rotors, pads ect. when I got good pedal i thought it was a done deal. so when i bleed the abs module do i need to bleed the rest of the brakes after bleeding the module, or just the abs module. thanks for your help guys

I believe your gears are out of whack. This can sometimes happen to these cars and there were a couple of Tech. Service Bulletins related to the gear pack. One of them having to do with binding of the center gear I believe. I am referring to the ABS hydraylic control unit on the master cylinder. The gears are under the plastic cover on the bottom. They must be parked correctly before start up in order to move and initialize properly.

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

I was going to try and bleed it one more time at the abs module IDK. If the gears are out of wack bleeding wont help or will it. It never had any problems untill I took off the master cylinder and got air in the system. If the abs module gears are bad do you just change the module or can you just change the parts inside. I went to the auto parts store to see if they had a abs code reader to use but they didnt have one. my plan is to try and bleed the abs module one more time if that doesnt work I was going to try and buy a abs code reader. does anyone know a good place to buy one of these. thanks for your help

I cant remember this last post and the brake light turning off

Maybe I had a Brake Light and a ABS light on

I dont remember the ABS Light ever turning off

I have the charger on the car now and Battery cables unhook with the headlight on hope that might reset the ABS Light IDK

Will update the ABS Light status I got all the air out the lines and the brakes did work fine never did hear the ABS reset as I turned the car on like it always did

Been awhile just refreshed my memory reading the thread
