  • '93 Beretta Antilock into a '91 Beretta

Here I am in brakes - came over from engine swap to ask another question:

We would like to take the brakes from the '93 and transplant them to the '91. I can see the master cylinder and control module and know the wheels have sensors and somewhere in the car is the computer.

If anyone's done this and has some tips let me know.

Well, I'm about to do that but haven't gotten into the details yet.. What you need are the wheel bearings for the rear, the correct CV shafts for the front, the newer style knuckles and brake system with the larger rotors and ABS Sensors... the obvious master cylinder and ABS unit assembly, the ABS computer (centre of firewall, 3 connectors) and all the related wiring..

I would highly suggest against this, yes swapping the bigger brakes over is a good idea, but the abs system in the beretta is very poor, you're are much better off with out it IMHO. I actually have a non abs master cylinder sitting here, i'm going to swap the abs out of my beretta.

Take ABS out? Well I dunno about that. You see we have a nicely kept 93 that was hit on the nose so we've got everything we need in there.

Personally I am a big fan of ABS - up here in NY it comes in very handy in the wet & snow we get so I definitely want it if it can be done.

What is interesting to hear is that we have to change everything from the CV shafts out. Thanks

Don't get me wrong here, i'm not knocking ABS as a great functional item, I'm just saying that the antiquated, gittery gear driven delco unit is just subpar.

I'm with RebelGT. ABS is good untill you have shitty ABS. Then you HATE it. ABS parts ain't cheep. OOOOOH the ass pains you will feel.

            Anyway, see ya

Hey, be glad it is not a Teves system. LOL

The Mark IV and V systems aren't as bad as they could be, they are no bosch setup but, you take what you can get.

I'm actually looking to adapt one of the Bosch type setups to the Beretta brake setup. I haven't really looked into this yet though.

I am going to get a Mark IV system goign on my 89 Beretta though. All I have to do is get rear bearings and sesnors, then install the ABS setup on the master cylinder and the computer.

I was wondering though, does anyone know anything about adapting Traction Control system to old ABS styles?

That is one thing I would really liek to try, although, factory traction control and ABS settings scare me.

I agree with Rebel though that non-ABS is sometimes better. I have never had much of a problem with brakes locking up with non-abs, you mainly just have to have control over your foot.
