  • Are Sensatracs any good for our W-Bodies?

Just curious. My rear struts are SHOT and I am thinking on getting some Sensatracs

'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

They aren't bad. I've had them for several years now. I got them when they had a special, 2 struts and 2 shocks for cheap. I think I got basically the shocks for $5 a peice with the special. One of the shocks went out and leaked oil and since my rear is a shock, it was a quick 30min job to take it off, take to the parts store, exchange under their warrenty, and put it back on.

The struts are pretty good and stiff for a while, then soften up, but they seem to have stabilized and haven't gotten much worse.

They aren't bad for the money. I do hit the corners very hard and they seem to be enough for me. If you have an ultimate suspension built up then look else where. Otherwise for a daily driver they are fine and do pretty good when you want to hit the country side twisties.

Ya I used to live out in the country w/ the parents. All it took for my '90 5spd SE w/ shot struts was a good sticky set of 245/50/16 firehawk vrs's to take those country curvies But anything would probably be better than my no-oil having, hard-hitting rear struts I think I will get the sensatracs and just keep my super sticky 225's on Thanks Pal!

        No problem!

When I got my car, it had blow struts and ok shocks. The springs were shot too (soft worn out FE1). Going 30mph I had to brake for every dip/bump in the road or bottom out. It was that bad. My friend had a Corsica with blown shocks/struts and he didn't bottom out, so I knew my springs were shot.

Depending on what base level springs you have you might want to upgrade them too at the same time... Also I replaced my strut mounts because mine were shot too, allowing the strut to wallow all around and when taken off the bearings just fell apart in my hands!

EDIT: What brand 225's you running? I'm looking at the KumHo brand on tirerack since they are cheap I want to run some 225's this summer as my 80k mile hard rubber slippery 205's are toast! I gotta do that soon, I can't stand these skinny winter wheels/tires I have on now! They scream for mercy with every corner, brake, or flooring of the loud pedal!

I think my springs are actually ok.. I dont wanna do TOO much to this car (yet) because I think I'm gonna end up selling it to fix up my smashed 13 second '91 GTZ
But I am DEFFINENTLY doing the strut mount replacement.. they are all mangled. Deffinently a persistant problem on these older W-Bodies :irk:
Right now I am running 225/16-50 Goodyear Assurance. They are nice. Very nice. Aggressive tread pattern too. But on my 5spd '90 I was running 245/16/50 Firehawk VRS. THOSE bad boys were sticky. First day i got them, in fact right down the road as I was pulling out, I did a nice red light take off racing a high-90's low 2000's grand marquis, and twisted the one dog bone in half because they gripped so well
GREAT tires, but they will last ya a season. As in, the end of summer say Bye-Bye

I got KYB's....you want those for a nice sporty ride...they are not stiff though...and are competitivly priced..

I got 245/50's on my GP...they are Fuzion ZRi's...i love'm ...nice and sticky.

The new Z06 exposes European sports cars for what they really are....overprice, underperforming snobs.
