  • Where do you get 'em?

Where do you guys shop for your swap engines? I ran a search through junkyarddog.com and and ended up buying from asapmotors.com. I probably could have checked with some semi-local yards in Portland OR, but I was lazy.

I'm not naming any names here, but if some idiot wanted to put a LQ1 in say... an Isuzu Trooper - where would he go to get one?

Actually my next project might be an '86 Fiero GT (sans-engine). I was thinking of using a Trooper 2.8L, but we'll see.

Related question. I have a 2.8L from said Trooper, and I have a mess of extra parts from a 3.4L SFI. How foolish would it be to fit the 2.8L (originally TBI) with the 3.4L SFI gear? I only ask because I already have them, and I think the 2.8L would be shiny with a head rebuild (and I'm sure still has a fair number of miles without). Still only eight-point-whatever compression though...

I got my LQ1 from pat!, ha ha. But anywho, just go shop your local you-pull-its, they'll probally have your best deals, and you'll be able to get the wiring harnesss and all that good stuff too, also keep an eye on ebay, and see what you can find.

i shopped ebay for a few weeks and ran across a local yard with a 40k mile 3400 for $199 starting bid and a 30k mile 2001 3100 for $199 starting bid and i bid on both hoping i'd get one and i won both... right now there's an LQ1/ 4t60-e/pcm/trans on ebay for 100 bux no reserve. i've found however that it's usually better to buy a running donor car.
