  • from air cooled stroker to 60 degree turbo

Thats the swap I am getting ready to do
Last week my sand rail, which was running a 2276 vw engine busted a bolt and blew a rod through the case.... in mexico..
Bummer since the 2276 was only good for 50 miles. Not even a full tank of gas cycled. conterfeit bolts...

So my mechanic, a sand rail builder in Phoenix offered to eat the cost of the engine and build a new one, OR OR OR!!!!! put in a brand new 3.4 with a turbo.

The only problem is I know nothing about these engines.
Going to keep the CR at 9:1 with about 12 lbs with 110 octane...
anyone see anything wrong with this?
Any modifications we should make to the engine before assembly?

3.4 as in DOHC or 3400? 3400 is 9.6:1 I think. 89jyturbo on www.v6z24.com ran 10psi on a stock 3400 with alcohol injection, and the piston skirt let go. He's going with forged now. Put down 320 something hp to the wheels.

I'd say piston would be weak point. You could run a 3.1mfpi computer with a custom burned chip with Turbo Grand Prix code and put the 3400 on it. That's what most of those j-body guys are doing.

Even NA you'll have a fast ride!

    1994 3100 BERETTA. 200,000+ miles
    16.0 1/4 mile when stock. Now ???
    Original L82 Longblock
    with LA1, LX9, LX5 parts
Manifold-back 2.5" SS Mandrel Exhaust. Hardware is SS too.

The 3400 is the newer engine right?
3.4 is the one that has been around since the 80's for the s-series chevy?

It is the older of the 2, the 3.4
      No fuel injection on this.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but those IronHead 3.4's are 8.9:1cr, the RWD V6's have ironheads.

Hmm. Only RWD 3.4 I know of is the one in the firebirds/camaros. But thing againe I dont know trucks. It would have iron heads if RWD.

Yeah, 3.4 iron head is most likely what you are talking about since you said 80s. The 3.4 was 93-95 F body but GM has a crate engine 3.4 to replace 2.8s as well. If its carb, I really dunno what you need to do for a turbo setup. I would put better pistons in it and thats about all it should need.

forgive my ignorance as I figure this all out, but where can I find some new pistons and what is the appropriate... size for an upgrade like this?

You mean for compression? I can get you stock replacement hypereutectic pistons for a 3.4 camaro. The only stock piston I know of that might raise compression some are the 3.4 DOHC pistons. If you meant overbore size for the pistons, it depends on what the block needs. I wouldn't bore it max over because its not that big of a difference doing so.
