  • 2.8L MPFI

I have a 1988 Chevy Corsica car, and it came with the 2.8L V6. Now, while I'm happy zooming around in a car that beats most of my friends who have similar vehicles (usually the 4-banger sedans) I'd rather have something with a bit more jump to it's step. I was looking around, but it seems that no one has swapped the engine in their '88 Corsica, or if they have, they haven't posted to the net about it. I saw a website of a guy who modified V8's to fit in a Fiero, so I figured anything could be possible. If I could get a V8 into this little car, I'd be through the roof happy, but even just a bigger V6 would be nice. Anyone have any ideas? And for anyone who doesn't know about Corsicas, they are GM L-Bodys and are one of the three cars with the L-Body, the other two being the Beretta and the Pontiac Tempest, which was essentially the Corsica from Pontiac to Canada. Thank you for any help.

What kind of work would be involved in that? I mean, I know all of the engine swap work that's normal, but would I have to change trannys, get a new mounting bracket, etc?

if its similar to berretas, maybe a 5 speed 3400 corsica would rock your friends worlds.

the 3100 and 3400 would require a different front mount, and maybe the rear, im not 100% sure since i dont have an L. in its last years the corsica had a 3100, so if you found the cradle for one of those, you could fit a 3400 no problem. but right now, you could simply swap in a 3.1 since its identical to your 2.8 in everyway but the crank, pistons, and the words on the intake. maybe the egr is a little different im not sure. but if you did swap in a 3.1, you could just keep the original 2.8 plenum and everything would work. same look, more power. shouldnt be hard at all. and the corsicas had a3.1 from 90-94 i think. theres only a million or so 3.1's around.

i have a bored 3.1 (3.2l now) in the garge im building, and its got a "2.8 Multi Port Fuel Injection" plenum on it just for liars sake.

3400 Swap has a run-down of putting a 3400 into an N-body. I'd think the engine bays of the L-bodies aren't that far off, so you could very well use that as a base and modify to fit where necessary.

If I picked up a 5 Speed Tranny conversion kit for my 2.8L, would that work with the 3400, as I currently have an automatic? And it's the *complete* kit. A guy was planning to turn his '89 into a manual, and it got totaled just before he did it.

all the motors we play with have the same bolt pattern for the transmission, so yes.
