  • 95 to a 92

I have a 92 lumina z34 with a bad engine, well i lost a cylinder and didn't want to fuck with it. I was going to swap it out with the engine in my 95 monte carlo z34 and was told it wouldn't work by a shop...they are both 3.4 ......... Why won't it work?? and how can i make it work??

It will work just fine, the shop is wrong. Take note, there are differences, but they are minor.

    1) The 95 motor has few more sensors. These include a Camshaft Position sensor, oil level sensor, and another crankshaft position sensor. Leave these 3 extra ones unplugged since your 92 doesn't need them.

    2) The 95 alternator will have a different electrical plug than your 92s. So you need to splice the plug from the 95 into your 92s wiring, pretty easy.

Other than that it should be pretty easy, be sure to swap the 92 upper intake manifold onto the 95 engine.

Don't forget the cruise control (and the steering wheel controls), throttle body, MAF sensor, Air Box are different. In addition you will run into into fuel line match up problems too. There is probably more then what 91GTO and I mentioned. i wouldn't do it - Believe me, I tried once. I ended up giving my project to RedNBlackCutlass and he ended up taking what he needed, and scrapped everything else.

I've done it, twice in fact, I know what the fuck I'm talking about.

He will be using his 1992 cruise control, throttle body, no MAF sensor, he will be running MAP, and his 92 airbox. He will also be using his 92 fuel lines.

Notice how I said use your 92 intake manifolds?

There isn't more than what I said, in fact it is really easy.

Wdowey - Sorry about that - I was outhinking myself. I was doing a 92 3.1 to 95 3.4 conversion, not a 3.4 - 95 to 92. This is actually a piece of cake. I've done it several times myself. I just got back in from outside, and was looking for a strange problem I'm having. I ran across your email and answered too quickly.

91GTP - "I know what the fuck I'm talking about." Chill Out dude, I wasn't criticizing you in the least. You're right, and I never questioned it. I was actually responding with the message above, and I got an email saying this thread was updated. I checked and sure enough you spammed me.
Chill out on your fellow members here - We help on this forum, not criticize - ok?

What about using the '92 alternator, seems a lot easier than splicing the new harness in. Plus this way, when the alternator will need to be replaced, it will be easy as ording one for a '92.

The accessory mounting bracket on his 95 is different than on the 92s, the alternators are different, the 95 will not bolt to the 92 bracket.

Also, you need to use the 95 alternator brackets, there should be 2 of them.
