Ive got a 96 cutlass supreme coupe and i love the car, i just got the tranny rebuild($1600 what a deal) and i dont want to sell it. I keep thinking it would be a waste to drop in any money to it cause you cant really do anything to it HP wise....I have been reading about swapping in a 3400, 3.4 DOHC or a L67....to me the L67 sounds the best cause of the parts and power available....I would love to do the 3400 cause its so much easier to swap in....but im not sure what kind of power i can get out of a 3400 and what is involved in the swap....Anybody got any advice? i was thinking of selling it for a dodge neon and boost it...Also what would be involved in getting a new engine? do i really have to have it ported and all that s***? $3000??

GM's 60* V6 is much better than a 3800.
With 120* crank throw angles and a 60* cylinder seperation it is perfectly balanced. The engine does not suffer from any inhernat vibrations. So right off the start you have an engine that is stable. New Gen III blocks have priority main feed oiling (like new smallblocks and big blocks). The cylinder heads use canted (or angled) valves just like a big block cylinder head. This canted valve un shroudes itself from the cylinder wall and creates better air flow. The cylinder heads incorperate a fast burn heart shaped combustion chamber for more powerful explosions. Oh and they are light weight aluminum.
So with all these good things to say about the engine I would go with it over any 3800. I dont think there is anything the 3800 can do better except come with a supercharger.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

i will say 3400 all the way. l67 would require you to swap transmissions, and i don't think you want to do that after the rebuild. well actually you wouldn't have to but for durability purposes you would need to.
so just do a 3400 swap. you can find them fairly cheap at www.car-part.com.
and www.3400swap.com will be your best friend.
just remember if you get a junkyard engine, check it over real good, maybe even take it apart. i have heard stories of things found in junkyard engines i.e. dead rats, bee hives, nuts and bolts...
