I am using my stock 2.8L ECM to control my 3.4L. New 4.3L injectors in the TBI compensate for the larger engine. It adapts quite well and I never have a problem.

With the supercharger I may require a new chip.

I am using an '88 Cav ECM (7730 IIRC) with a TGP burnt PROM, modified '88 Cav wiring harness, to control my turbocharged Hybrid, so technically I guess that is the ECM that came with that engine.

I'm using a 91 1227727 from a 3.1 Lumina with my 89 3.1. It's completely stock at this point but I plan on making a few minor changes to the code sometime before spring. I transplanted this engine into an MGB by the way.

ive got the ecm for the motor as well.

the raven, i heard you mention elswhere that a gen1 to gen2 swap has a wiring issue in the dash, could you explain that to me. so i dont smack facefirst into this obstacle.

my car is an 86 2.8 iron head mpfi, going to 3.1 mpfi. i know there has to be something different due to dis. i think the haynes shows the crank sensor just goes into the icm. and the connectors look identical to the old ones that hooked to the dist. im the stock wire harness plugged into a 91 z24 ecm, all the motor conectors look like they'll fit.

I believe you arte refering to ethe speedo issue I had in my Skyhawk, which I rectified by using a speedo from the donor vehicle and making a new cluster surround, I wanted to anyway. I later found out though that I could have used a different speedo that would have basically just dropped into my stock cluster, oh well, live and learn. With your's being an '86 Z, I believe you have the same dash as the 2nd gen ph1 Z24s had, in which case if your tranny only supports an electronic speedo you could very esily swap to a digital cluster, I know I know, they have problems, but this would be the "easy" fix.
If you are retaining your current tranny, then the speedo will not be an issue, though the VSS would be.
To get your swap running will not be difficult, you may need to swap a couple pins in teh dash to engine harness connetor on teh passenger side of teh dash, but it's quite easy, I used a Haynes manual and some s=know how to make the proper pin swaps.

If there are any other concerns, just ask.

cool, i noticed when i hooked the injector harnnes up that there are 2 wires swapped around, green and pink i think, im not sure what the effect will be, i figured if the car didnt start that would be why and id just swap them around. as far as dash. my car has the digital cluster in it. the vss i dont think will be a problem, i swapped the old 4 spd for a 5spd (mt2 isuzu) and near as we could tell the sensors were identical. im puting the old 4spd back in (rebuilt of course) so i'll be using its sensor.

I have used a Haltech F7 in the past, currenty using an E6GM. Plan to switch over to a GM 7730 running TGP code in the future.

Used to use stock GM delco ECM and stock prom,

I now have a Holley Commander 950 ECU (non wideband version) to control it.

I would throw my vote down in the carburetor category if that's the case. I wouldn't call it an ecm though unless you have some weird bastardized carb/ecm setup going.
