  • Which one and Why?... I want to know...

I have an 02 Jeep Liberty in perfect condition, but a blown 3.7 motor..... IF you know anything about Liberty's this is common. The Dodge 3.7 is a horrible motor. It did have fairly good power, but only got about 15 mpg. I've basically written it off.... I've considered several motor swaps from SBC, Hemi, CDR Diesel, to VW 1.9 TDi..... I think it would be great to find a motor that I can install in it that would get good power and good mpg...

I am currently working on installing a 3400 SFI into a Ratrod 63 Econoline van. I figured it got great fuel mileage (28 mpg) in my wife's old minivan, so i figured it would work well in the Econoline. So I got to thinking, is there a 60 degree V6 that would work well in the Liberty.

So with that being said, if it were you, which one would you use, and why?

You need to ask yourself is the extra work needed to swap a GM engine in there worth it? Is the cost worth it for you? Can you do it all yourself?

If you want to be different and go the 60 degree v6 route you have multiple choices all which i would figure would want maybe need a turbo attached to it.

LX9(3500) would be my choice with a decently sized turbo on it right around 350hp. Easily can handle that power with stock internals. Maybe a little head work or a small cam too.

EDIT::: Kinda skipped over the good mpg part. I'm not very knowledgeable in that aspect but I would assume a stock LX9(3500) with a MPG/Torque cam from WOT-Tech would do the trick and be a little above 200hp at the crank

I have the time and ability.... Right now I am leaning towards the VW 1.9 TDI. Just for the fuel mileage. But I'd really like to keep it Gas if I can.....

No idea if it bolts up but 2.2 Turbo II from 87-88 dodge daytona shelby z. Or take the 2.5 Turbo I block and put the Turbo II upper half on for more low end torque and for being in boost less often for m pee gees.

This is the first time I've ever heard anybody say that the Dodge 3.7 is a terrible engine. I usually hear good things.

I own one, in a 2005 Dakota, over 300000 km, still runs strong.

I'm currently trying to sell the truck, but only because I have too many vehicles and it's the only one that doesn't fit into what I want, although I really do like that it's a truck.

Anyway, the only swap I would be doing away from the 3.7 is a diesel, and if I don't end up selling the Dakota, that will be the plan, lift it, solid axle, convert to 4x4, and eventually a 5.9 Cummins, though I might settle for a 3.9.
