  • Possible Idea: 3900 with F40 into a 3rd gen MR2-S

Hi, I have posted a few times here before about maybe putting a 3.5 in my 4runner. However, that vehicle has left the stable. I am now thinking about a 3900 or 3500 with an f40 into my 2001 MR2 Spyder. I have seen people put DOHC v6s in them so I am pretty sure it will fit. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

    Thanks, Jordan

Keep it simple, the car only weighs "2 lbs", a non VVT motor with a Getrag or Muncie 5 speed is enough for that car. You don't need the added complication of the F40 or VVT motor if you're trying to build a quick naturally aspirated daily driver.

I understand what you mean but the f40 is so cheap and the fact I can buy a new one is very tempting. The vvt I can live without. I was just hoping for a wrecked donor that I could use the entire drivetrain out of.

edit: I realize that I just said that I was happy to get a new f40 and then said I was looking for a donor. Maybe I will research the other transmissions but I don't want anything older than my car or more expensive than a f40 is. I will have to do custom axles so I looking for the best unit from the beginning so as to not repeat myself later
