  • Will an 89 2.8 fit into an 85 Cavalier body?

Redoing the engine in my little red cavy (transmission comes home Wednesday), and I need to get an engine for this thing. I want to use the 89 2.8/3.1 in its place, but I'm curious about all the brackets, mounting, etc.

I realize I'll need a different intake, throttle body, and ecm-and a Map sensor IIRC to replace the MAF sensor.

Will it "drop right in" or will I need to get new alternator brackets or modify motor and xmission mounts? Note: tranny is a TH125C-standard issue automatic.

    Thanks in advance,

    Don

It will fit, but you will have to switch over a few things from your old motor. You would be better off using as much of the old 2.8 as possible, otherwise you will have to burn a chip for the computer.

Thanks for the response. I decided to play it safe. Got a reman engine (Vege/ATK) same model year. I'll swap ecm's etc later once I've established it's running properly (cut down on troubleshooting issues if something goes awry).
