  • early 80's chevette 3.1L T5 swap?

Seems I have a problem. I love the little platform that the chevette/acadian was built on. So I'm buying both kinds. I'm buying a 76 2 door acadian that will remain stock until the early 80's(unsure of year) chevette I'm also buying is done.

The 80's chevette has a complete drivetrain, 3.1L followed by a T5 5 speed with a custom rear driveshaft already made, It's a 98 monte carlo engine and the wiring harness has already been modified and uses a 93 cavalier computer(this is my main concern) the exhaust is complete. The owner says that the only thing it needs is a hydraulic clutch setup(he tells me one out of a 2002 s10extreme is what I need. I'm wondering if I can use the factory cable clutch. I'm sure small things like guages and fuel need to be buttoned up as well. I'm just curious about intake options. because I know on the fwd engines the throttle body is at the back of the engine.

have you looked under the hood? the lower and upper intakes can be flipped around when you use a RWD timing cover, that's usually what people do.

that 93 Cavalier computer is very tuneable, you'll have no problems there.

Thanks Superdave honestly Ive yet to see the car and only know the 60degree V6 gm engines from the ones I've removed from wrecked cars at work(I am a dismantler 1 for our local government insurance so I get to take apart many venture vans with the 3400sfi engines) How does one tune the 93 cavalier computer? is this something I could buy for my laptop? Will I need to do a bunch of tuning before using this car?

also do the superchargers from the 3800 fit on the 3100? I'm thinking later on after I get a 4.3 in the acadian(next summer) I might throw a supercharger on this chevette

What are your plans for a rear end?
I'm just running a stock 3.4L/4L60E in my Chevette, and I blew up the rear end in my car in under 9/10th's of a mile. Seriously, I punched it from about 30MPH and when the trans shifted to 3rd there was a loud bang under/behind the car. That rear end only had 48,000 miles on it, and I figured it wouldn't last forever, but I never dreamed it would be quite that easy to break.
I'm swapping to an S-10 rear w/ladder bars now.

It really depends on some specific information that you'll need to get from the owner. You'll need to find out what injectors are in the engine, what fuel pressure regulator, what chip is in the computer and any internal modifications that he did to the engine.

You can download Tunerpro RT from tunerpro.net, it's a free program that most of us use for the GM OBD1 ECM's. Moates.net sells an ALDL adapter so that you can hook the laptop up to the ALDL port on the car, then log the sensor data in real time. To actually tune the car you will need either a chip burner with a couple blank chips and a Moates G1 adapter, Or an Ostrich Emulator (takes the place of the chip). That will allow you to change things on the fly.

I'd register on v6z24.com and check out this thread: http://www.v6z24.com/jbodyforum/tuning-faq-t102758.html There is a ton of info in there, some needs updating but all the files you'll need for Tunerpro can be downloaded.

I am getting a spare rear axle from a friend of mine. But I guess if they break that easily. I've read that s10 brake rotors can be used with a sleeve Welded to the factory spindle. Maybe an .s10 bolt pattern swap is in order. Does the S10 rear fit?

The 2WD S10 rear end is what I'm using, should be rolling around on it in a couple weeks.

I have come across a mustang fox body 8.8 rear axle. posi. not sure of the gears and not really concerned with the bolt pattern. Possible upgrade I guess
