Ok, heres a project description: I have a sand rail that im building, my plan is to use a 2.8L out of a 1989? berretta, it will be mounted up to a vw bus trans via a kennedy adaptor. I already have the adapter, clutch ect... Im just trying to figure out a few details. Ive been reading through this site for a few days now, but still have some questions. First, does the 2.8L block from a berretta have the same mounting spots on the block as a 2.8 from an s10 truck? Reason being is i want to use s10 motor mounts. Is this possible? Second question, can this motor be converted to carb and distributor rather than coil packs? i saw a couple posts about it but am still unsure if its possible with this year motor. Sorry about my ignorance, im very new to the 60 Deg V6 world, I would be very greatful for any help at all, even a point in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

FWD and RWD mounting points are different. I know some of the older blocks had the mounts for both but I think by 1989 the blocks have changed for FWD cars. Pretty sure without a custom intake you are stuck with fuel injection.
Might be better off just finding a RWD 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4 for your project to do what you are wanting. I would look for anything 1987-1993 in s-series and 1987-1995 for f-body for an engine.87 3.4 4x4 blazer

Correct. FWD engines went to aluminum heads in 1987, so you are stuck with coilpacks unless you either swap to iron heads and carb intake, or fab a custom intake for the aluminum heads, as a distributor will not clear any of the EFI manifolds.
RWD setup (or FWD TBI setup found in some early vans, 90-95) are going to be your best bet.
Check out the family tree for any other tidbits of info you may want to ponder.-Brad-

I guess its back to square one... which means going through the giant wiring mess to make it all work... at least i almost got the motor and trans mounted in the rail. Any tips on wiring? What sensors, if any, can be eliminated from the motor? Can any of the cooling lines be plugged so i can just run the radiator hoses only? Or will the motor overheat?
