  • cast iron heads vers aluminum

Does anybody know if the top end of a 1985 Fiero 2.8 vin 9 engine with cast iron heads will bolt up to 1987 2.8 vin W engine with aluminum heads?

The aluminum head manifolds will not bolt up to iron heads and vice versa. Intake ports are in completely different spots between the 2 heads.

I think I know where you are going with this....all of the pushrod heads are basically transferable between the different short blocks. If you make use of cast heads you need to make use of the cast head manifolds as Brad stated. The same goes for the alloy head engines. If you're thinking of dropping the alloy heads down onto the cast head block...then you will have a serious increase in compression as the pistons used in the cast head engines are flat tops, and the pistons used in the alloy head engines are dished. The cast heads are open chambered, the alloy heads are closed chambered.
