  • 95 3100 monte carlo in a 96 olds cut timing prob!!

Ok im have some troubles ok check it. The Chilton book says on the 3.1L that when you have the dots of teh cam and crank aligned with the alignment dole that cylinder #1 should be TDC and cyl# 4 is in firing mode. ok sounds very easy to align which it is. here my prob. Ok I have the the cam and crank dots aligned and cyl#1 is to be at TDC but its not its BDC so if i take the crank to the right about 140 degrees to the right cyl # 1 is now TDC but i have turn the cam just a little because of the exaust valve is just a bit down. so ive been fiddling with the cam and crank config just a bit check by rotating the crank and cam before i do a live start just to insure i don valve slap a piston and bend them or screw it up. but i can not remember the i way i had the cam or the crank when i had bumped the spark plugs by 1 ( 6 to 5, 5 to 4, 4 to3 , 3 to 2, 2 to 1, and 1 to 6. and the funny thing is it ran like it was in time but but wasnt really in the correct time was nice to know it was running til me though im getting close to and took it back apart and not taking any kind of picture to go back to a reference point to try again so i was stuck for about a 5 minute happy moment thinking im really close but find my self in a rut again. if any one i mean any one can help me it would make my day so i can get the wife out of my hair she going bonkers on my ass lol:P

oooh and i had to swap the intake hat and the injector plug harness and the thermostat sensor, knock sensor, EGR vlave, just to get cross over. i bought a new cam and crank sensor to think that would solve the problem but it was running on the old cam and crank sensors when i that one perfect moment lol...

Perhaps you are confused about the cylinder numbers. The numbers on the intake manifold can be confusing because the numbers mark the runners and are on the opposite side of the manifold from the corresponding cylinder. Just put #1 (rear cylinder on passenger side) and #4 (front center cylinder) at TDC and align the timing marks.

    Best of luck.

Good to hear you found the problem. It's an easy mistake to make due to the markings on the intake. Is it running good now?

          well?

Well it kinda is sounds like it has a miss in it so put new plugs and wire even new coil packs on it but it sounded little bit better but still has a miss in it drive kinda slugesh when hitting the passing gear sound like the motor is runing hard but with a miss the trany then lacks effort til i back off the gas a bit. owell
