i recently aquired two engines from someone cleaning out their garage. one is the older 3.1 engine and the other is a 1994 3100. neither engine had upper or lower intakes on them. the point of this is: i have a 1989 z24 cavalier with a 3.1 in it. this motor has been giving me issues since this ice storm happened at my parents house in indiana. i wanted to know if my 3.1 intake will fit onto the 1994 3100 block and heads. the main differences i noticed between the two motors is roller lifters, and the exhaust ports on the 3100 are not circular like the 3.1. the intake side of the heads look the same. will this work, or should i just stick to using the 3.1 block and heads?

3100 heads need 3x00 intake manifolds. Won't work with MPFI stuff. 3100 flows so much better might as well work with that stuff if you want to do the work to get performance.
3100 won't bolt into a 89 without a front mount made up. You could swap to 3x00 top end on the 3.1mpfi motor though. check out www.domesticcrew.com for ideas on the hybrid/install guide parts for what works and what doesn't.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)
