  • 1999 LG8 3.1(old) Swap 2000 LG8 3.1(new)

Will a LG8 3.1 from a 2000 bolt directly into a 1999 Malibu that has a LG8 3100? Excuse my ignorance, but the people selling the engine maintains that it HAS TO BE from a 1999. I think that they may be confusing the LG8(J Code)/L82(M Code) issue. Am I making any since?

Yes. The only difference that there might be would be the EGR mounting on the plenum. But if you have both engines, then parts can be made to work, as the EGRs are the same.

yup you'll need the 2000+ EGR tube and EGR, and you can use the large port intake manifold then. Or you can grab a 3400 UIM from 96-99 and it will use the 99 style EGR.

Unless your malibu is a 99 that got the "large" port intake manifold/etc engine. some did, some did not.
