  • 3100 SWAP

I have just purchased a 1998 olds silhoutte for my wife this van has a 3400, i happen to have a 3100 that is out of a 2000 malibu if i went this way to swap these are there any real big hurdles that i need to go thru. I know the3100 will not make the power that the 3400 will and i am ok with that as long as i can feel ok with no major meltdown due to over work.

    Thanks for your help

Should be a direct bolt in. You can even swap over the 3400 UIM, which will ensure your EGR will bolt up the same. And then when you go to sell it, no one will know that its not a 3400.

    Welcome to the site!

Yeah the 2000+ 3100 and 3400 are the same except the 3400 block has a bigger bore, and bigger pistons. Other than that the crank/rods/heads/intakes/cam are the same.

You would loose .3L of displacement is all. Other mechanical stuff would be the same. Actually might have some better casting for flow in the newer 3100.

just a good rule of thumb for all engine swaps whether you are upgrading or not is to long block only. never use electronics from other vehicles unless it is part of a methodical process.
