  • V6 Firebird

Hi, I am new to this site and have been reading many interesting articles. I have a 1994 Pontiac Firbird with a 3.4L V6 motor. It has a fresh rebuild, everything stock. I deleted the EGR valve setup with block off plates, it has pacesetter headers, flowmaster muffler, and K&N cold air intake, I have had a 160 degree hypertech thermostat in there but as of now its back to the original.

I would like to make a little more power. I have read some stuff and am very confused. What is the first thing you guys would do? I dont want to change the pistons. I was thinking something I could do while the motor is still in the car. I dont have the expertise to pull the entire motor but wouldnt mind learning how to change the heads or swap the intake manifold or something like that.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    H272 cam
    3X00 head swap
    headers

    should wake that 3.4 up.

Maybe someone will chime in on how to tune it after that, myself, I'd swap the computer to a 7730 OBD1 as it's proven to run engines just like this with a few bits of hardware and free software.

Hi thanks for replying. Can you provide me with part numbers or where I can get these parts from and information. A search of them in google didnt return much. I have pacesetter headers already, they are ok, but I think I should go catless soon.

      Thanks again

well it depends on how deep you want to get in the swap the iron heads are very restrictif
so aluminum heads are the way to go but you will have to go with a DIS ignition system because there is no F.W.D intake that provides for a distributor so like mentioned above your best bet is to swap the harness and ecu
but if you just want a little bit more then maybe you can get away with what you have if your goals are 200-210 hp max W/O N2O

          94 Firebird has no distributor.

Start with tuning. Your ECM is not tunable (for now).

Easiest thing to do is what we call piggybacking the system. You use another ECM (like MegaSquirt or OBD1) to control only timing and fuel. Once you get the hang of that you can put a 3500 top end on there with a decent cam and compare to a v8.
