jeep 2.8 swap help

hi i am new to this forum and looking for some input. i am looking at buying a jeep cherokee with a 2.8. the kid says it runs i am sure of that. my ? is what engine would work best for this jeep. i have read on other sites about using the 3.4 from a firebird. is that best bet? i was thinking about a later model 3100, 3400 or even the dohc 3.4. I'm not really a GM guy but do think the newer 3100s and 3400s some of the best out there.

The 3100 and 3400 is a nice motor for sure but the 3.4L is so popular because it is a bolt in swap. The power increase is quite nice and the cost is minimal. There is a swap guide on my site for the 3.4L into an S-10 the Jeep swap is identical.
