  • 5 Speed swap in my 1991 Z34 Lumina

First off I have to say thank you to all then have giving me Info on this swap. And I am putting up a new post for any other tips, tricks or secrets that I should know About?? I am swapping my 1991 Z34 lumina from and auto to a 5 speed. my doaner car is a 1992 Z34 Lumina 5 speed. everything sceems tobe going good. I am in the mix of putting in the fire wall plate out of the 1992 Z34. The only thing I was wondering about is the clutch saftey switch. I got a artical off of this site which was very helpfull. But it did not say to much about that switch. Any Idears???

Hmm, if I remember right, the switch is located right under neath the clutch pedal itself. Main purpose is so you can't start the car in gear without clutch pedal pressed in. I think there was 2 thick (possibly 12gauge) wires coming off switch (yellow in color). I believe the wires tied into the starter.

What kind of info did you want about it?

Cant help on the wiring, but Lorenzo had the switch disabled in his 1992 Grand Prix, and I forgot to push in the clutch and went to start it. It lept forward and up the curb.

I am glad he was not that pissed, and was more LAUGHING, but still, it was embarassing. I am glad that we were not parked in a normal space and had a CAR in front of me.

Best to add it, but still not sure of how. The only 5-speed car at my local yard is a Beretta, and I don't know if that is the same, or similar (I know the car is not. I mean the wiring and switch location).

You should be able to locate a yellow 12gauge wire ignition wire on the steering column. Splice the clutch safety switch inline with that wire and the car wont start without the clutch depressed.

that switch is tied into the steering columns wiring, i am just swapping the entire column into my car for this same swap, but i can imagine that you could just swap the column wiring harness, or splice the switch into what you already have.
