I was woundering if a 91-94 3.1 short block will bolt up to my 3100 top end and run in my 96 lumina I can get a 93 short block for cheap

You can make a hybrid but you're kind of doing it reverse.. The 3.1 block doesn't have a 24x crank sensor for idle/etc but maybe it could bolt on if you used the 3100 pulley? You'd need custom push rods, and not sure about the motor mounts. Another big problem is you won't have a cam sensor, so your SFI fueling would be just guessing/defaulting to batch fire. And you'd have an engine code.

Basically the top end would bolt up with some work, but the block won't run really with your computer.

Best to pass on this one.

Bad idea. You will loose the roller cam and priority main feed oiling system. Its a step backwards man. Also you will not have a hole for the cam sensor so your ECM will not run in SFI mode.

What wrong with the block in the Lumina? Could he replace the parts in the 3100 Lumina block with the ones from the 3.1?
