  • 3100 engine swap

Hi, does anyone know if a 3100 out of a 96 grand prix will replace a 3100 in a 97 grand am?
I am really concerned about the motor mounts and whether the bolt holes are going to be behind the timing cover when I pull out the grand prix 3100.
If you know of any other major problems please let me know.
    Thanks for any help...................Doug

moved. 96 and 97 3100s are the same. You may have to swap exhaust manifolds but the motor itself is identical.

      3100 swap

I know I have to change the mount by the timing cover do you know if there will be bolt holes under the timing cover so that I can install the side motor mount in the grand am?
      Thanks again

If worse comes to worse, you can always swap the timing cover from the old engine to the new engine. I had to do that when I swapped in my 3400 do to different placement of holes for idler pulleys and such.

          Thanks

Just wanted to tell you the engine went in fine, we did have to change the motor mounts from front to side.
We also had to change some sensors and metal water lines.
the alternator had to be changed because of the 3 wire verses the one wire setup.
The holes for the motor mount were already in the timing chain cover and now the car runs great.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with the extra transmission out of the grand prix.
I will have to see if it will fit in the grand am???
I may hold on to it if it does.
          Thanks for all the help.
