  • Hope someone can answer a couple questions.

I have a 1930 Model A Ford and to make a nice driver of it I bought a completely rebuilt 1982 V6 2.8 from an S10 Blaser to put in it. I have a Borg Warner 5 Speed Manual Trans, a 3.73 Blaser Rearend, Edelbrock Manifold, Headman Headers and 390 CFM Holley 4 Barrel.
It is my understanding that this is an externally balanced engine and was told by the place I bought the Flywheel from that it would balance the engine.
In order to keep the Engine short and narrow to fit in the Model A without doing a lot of chopping I thought about running the front items from an 86 Fiero (Alternator,Water Pump and AC Compressor) and am having some trouble with a Harmonic Balancer. Will I need an externaly balanced one or a regular one, and will the Balancer from a Fiero fit on this Engine? The Timing Chain Cover and Water Pump I have on it now is from a Celebrity and with a Fiero Alternator and mounting bracket the serpentine pulley lines up perfect with the Fiero Pulley on the Water Pump. I guess my big question is has anyone done anything like this before and if so what Harmonic Balancer would I need? Thanks for now, I'm sure I'll have more ????

All dampers were the same. All wer neutral balance. Only the flywheel has to match the engine.

If it is at all possible it would be a wise idea to get an 88 or later engine. This engine uses a one piece rear main seal, larger crank journals and is internal balance.

if the engine is freshly rebuilt and you already have it, i see no issues in using it. its not the ideal 60 degree motor but it will work just fine. 85.5 brounght a lot of changes that made the motor more powerfull (larger valves) and more reliable (1 pc rear main seal, larger crank journals).

you will need a pre 88 flywheel is what you need, a newer balancer will work just fine. however, you need to be carfull you get a balancer that will clear the oil pan. i tried to put a gen 2 (90 3.1l) balancer on my 86 motor and it hit the oil pan. you should however be just fine using the fiero balancer with the fiero timing cover.
