i might get a hold of an 88 cavalier for dirt cheap but it needs a new engine. i was thinking of either a 3400 or 3500 but which one will be the easiest/best?

go to www.domesticcrew.com for all the info on swapping a 3400 in. to get it mounted in the car, you need to get a different front engine mount bracket (there are several out there), and need to use a 3400 power steering pump, and some different lines, lengthen some wires, different rad hoses. its the closest thing to a bolt in you can get.

3500 is a bit harder. you need to get a 7x crank trigger wheel (from the 60degreev6 store), fab both front and rear engine mount brackets, change the throttle body (its drive by wire).
