  • dyno spark and fuel maps. having issues

This is a dyno tune map from a very well know local tuner. It is unfinished.. he still has more spark work to do, said it retarded a lot. Attached.

Previous tune on tunerpro made 218.9whp and 222tq with an internet road tune from superdave.

This tune on ms made about 150whp... there were issues of the car stumbling under wot. picture a turbo car with too big of spark plug gap, thats what it reminded me of. blowing the spark out. it was any RPM once you stab the throttle. It needs to be fixed before I can get the tune finished.

After driving it for a few hundred miles I cant get it to reproduce the stumble. It does at times hesitate when you stab the throttle but it picks back up. I have even tried different gears using the brakes to put different loads on it.

I changed the spark plugs to rule that out.

Another issue im having is with my wideband. Its reading rich. Innovate LC-1. Emmissions testing shows the car is also running rich. The tuner used his wideband on the dyno and swears its dead accurate. I replaced my sensor with no change. previous tune was going off this. Road tuned to my gauge does feel and sound lean on ms.

last issue. at random times the car likes to idle at 500rpm with a 10.5afr...

if anybody has some feedback or ideas that would be great. It may even be the settings in MS according to the tuner but he doesnt know ms very well other than tunning

Do you have your accel enrichment set up? If you are stabbing the throttle and it stumbles and then comes back if you hold a throttle position it could be that you aren't getting enough fuel until the MS figures out what cell to be in... There is a reason ECMs have a TPS input...

According to what I have read, the tune should be done by gradually moving into new cells and adjusting to bring things in line... stabbing the throttle should have no part in it. After VE is set, you then work on the acceleration enrichment settings to keep the engine from going lean when you goose it...

I am going to be running MSII-extra on my 3500... when I get it in the back of the car... What did you base that spark map on? Your previous OBD1 setup? Why did you switch?

Advance is a little tame but it's not far off enough to lose that much power, gen 3 heads seem to like 26-28 degrees in the upper RPM's.

I'd say something is up with your settings, that's quite a bit of a difference.

AE is turned off from what it looks like. I got a base map from a member on v6z24 but the spark got changed a LOT from what the dyno was telling him. all the cells were tuned one at a time, WOT was just for testing or maybe tunning it? im not sure, im not a tuner lol. I will turn it on in a few days when the weather clears up to see what it does.

I switched because tuner pro/ostrich sucks. I couldnt even change the revlimiter with out going into limp mode. when the car ran, it ran good. I would get so many random computer errors. at times the car would lean out for no reason, it would do it for a few months (undriveable) and finally it would be back to normal. I got fed up. at least with ms I understand how to add or remove fuel and use the system (for the most part, still a newb) also one o2 sensor is pretty nice to have again. ms really simplified the system, other than the issues im having lol

        thanks guys!!
