  • PCM Compatibility?

    Will a 97 PCM from a monte carlo 3.4dohc work on a 96 3.4dohc? And I’m sure this is a dumb question but will a 97 3.1 pcm work on a 96 3.4dohc?

'97-96 all PCM's will be plug-in compatible, but the '97 PCM has 512kb memory (vs 256k for '96) so I don't think you can swap programs between the years. Now IF you can get away with using a '97 3.4 PCM for a '96 3.4 car, just use that. As long as there isn't any major difference in powertrain or electronics in the car, then it'll be ok. On my car I can swap between '96 and '97 PCM's but I have a 3x00 vehicle.
