  • Turbo 3.1/3100 tuning

I have been searching for info and trying to get a clue on the tuning process...and for some reason I cant quite grasp it. Ive found everything I need to do the burning...its just the process. My brain is a little fried right now so Ill just ask 1 question. If I run the TGP code on my set-up how would it run? I dont really understand all the little fine tuning aspects of the tuning process, so could I throw the TGP code and be able to get my car to get it dyno tuned? Thanks for any help

If your original engine didn't use DIS you'll need to do a little wiring and get the right 7730? ecm for it. Then you can burn the TGP to a chip or use an emulator and run your engine off of that. You'll have to tune the TGP code to fine tune it to the better flowing motor you now have, but yes, you use the TGP code as a base since it is made for a boosted app. Depends if the shop can tune OBD1 stuff on how well they tune your car.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I have the 7730 ECM, and I was told that I can just wire in the DIS(+ add 1 more ground) to my set-up. Also will using the TGP code allow me to use a 2 BAR map? Im assuming it will, but I thought Id better ask.
Im sure that there will be more questions when I get started on this.

Yup, TGP uses a 2 bar MAP since it's boosted. There are some how-to's on tuning TGP code on www.v6z24.com you could read through.

The info on the Z24 site will get you started but there is some debate regarding the BPC(base pulse constant) which some say to adjust down with larger injectors until the engine idles properly and some say leave it alone. I'm beginning to believe except for a small amount that you should leave it alone.

In the TGP code it starts out at about 105, I have 33 lb/hr injectors corrected for fuel pressure instead of the 22s used by the TGP code on the 3900. On the second test drive attempt after having lowered the BPC to about 48 to get a decent idle the car actually ran worse, leaning out by part throttle and backfiring suggesting that the fuel trim needs to be spread out over the BPC, Idle efficiency table and maybe the main efficiency table, so that an adequate BPC is available over the entire rpm range with necessary adjustments at other points.

In other words lowering the BPC can put you in a situation where although the combined parameters show adequate fueling the BPC winds up maxed out before you actually reach that point leaning out the engine. What I'm refering to is the formula used by the ecm to arrive at the appropriate amount of fuel for a given input.

There is an entry for the fuel injector size but it really doesn't appear to work all that well in my experience and another problem is potential bugs that have not quite been identified in Tunerpro. I had to use my backup program Tunercat to raise the rev limiter and noted that when it read over 6k rpm in Tunercat it read 4k rpm in TunerproRT however the reading in Tunercat was correct. If you changed it to above 6k in Tunerpro it would read 4k in Tunercat and would limit rpm to 4k. So it is also possible that bugs are contributing to the tuning problem. Since I have had Tunercat for a long time I'll upgrade to the TunercatRT and see how well it works with my emulator since I've had no real problems with it in the past.

          Fuel calculating formula:

          BPW = BPC * MAP * T * A/F * VE * BVC * BLM * DFCO * DE * CLT * TBM

Im going to be running 24lb injectors, so I should probubly be fine.
I didnt know that the TGP came with 22lb injectors, I was just wondering about that about an hour ago.
Thanks for the link. The problem I see myself having is the actual input of the code. I dont know how the programs work(never used one), so I think Im stressing my self out a bit to much...its probubly easier than I think.

As time id drawing near my wallet is getting kinda thin...So I was wondering would it be possible for someone to burn the basic TGP code, on my chip, for me? Im just looking for a base tune for right now.
I want to make sure that everything is working right, on lower boost, and than later get it tuned and turn the boost up.

I know that there are a lot of variables that go into this, so Im just seeing if it is possible.

Not sure if Ben does TGP chips, but scott09999 on here and v6z24.com does, as a few others I think too.

I would use a business to tune my car. Unless Ben can do it, if not, then go to that link.

Depends if you just need a chip to get it running, and plan to tune yourself later.

Thanks. I had not heard of that company. I will look into them. I had already asked if they could burn a chip for me here...They dont have the info needed for my car.

I want to get it running first, and when I get enough money I want to get it dyno tuned. I would rather get someone who knows what they are doing to handle this. I just cant quite grasp the concept and ins/outs of the process, and would HATE if I messed something up.

They offer to tune it for free (up to a year) as long as there's no big changes or upgrades. Plus they warranty there work, so its done to the 't'. You just don't get that from just anyone, sure they will say it, but when shtt hits the fan they don't respond back to emails or pm's on a respectable time frame, point the finger at you and tell you need to do "this that one thing another" just to kill time. Don't waste $$$ on just anyone for a tune.
That place also supports you wanting to tune yourself, but I highly suggest having them do a mail tune then you learn from there. Unless you have lots of time to burn and money to fling out right now to get all set up.

Who runs that place? I can't remember. They do make some good cars (and work) from what I've seen on the site.

If you want something to get you going, I can ship you that uber expensive **160 chip for the price of shipping + 10$ + a stock memcal.

Or I can do the stock code, or something a bit better for a manual trans....

Won't be perfect but it will run the car just fine.

I made one for a kid in Quebec and his sunbird went 13.7 @ 105 all stock 3.1L and T25, stalls sometimes though, and runs rich.

I don't want to make any money off this stuff, I just like seeing budget 660's raping the streets.

                              haha.
