  • Replacing distributor with DIS

Does anybody happen to know if replacing the distributor with a DIS is a plug-and-play deal? The engine already has the crankshaft sensor in place. This is a 93 Camaro 3.4 that has been installed in an 87 Fiero, just in case it matters. Basically I would like to know if the signalling between the ignition control module and the ECM is the same on the distributor and DIS ICM.

try it and find out, im guessing the worse thing that would happen is it wouldnt start or run.

I was told some time ago that it is not and has to do with programming not readily available in the run of the mill tuning programs but actually in the main code itself. So you would have to use a DIS ECM unless someone else can prove the initial verdict wrong. This theory would explain why the 730 ECM can be used for DIS and Distributor engines turbo Grand Prix and pre LSx Camaro TPI the code being the difference. Nothing is impossible though.

The problem is you'd need to change some parameters in the binary - the reference angle, and min/max spark timing.
Okay now, that's enough of that.

So you can get the TGP ECM to run a distributor off the TGP code? and by binary you mean the stuff that doesn't show up in Tunercat and Tunerpro RT right, the disassembled data at specific addresses correct?

I'm still waiting on the first reluctor wheel for test fitting, made the mistake of telling the machinist after he apologized for the delay that I planned a month ahead, so I guess he took that to mean he has more time.

Yes you can. It's nothing tunerpro or tunercat can't edit, it just isn't in their definitions. There are a lot of things not in their definitions - simply because most people don't need to change a whole lot.

Well in that case can you direct me in the right direction to switch the 749 ecm over to DIS control especially since it has been tuned extensively and can apply the full 15 psi instead of the 727s ~14? I have both ECMs but from what I have been reading the 727 seems like it will be more troublesome to tune although I plan on using the APU1 from Moates for realtime tuning.

find a hack of whatever code mask you're using, and I'll point to what you need to change..
