  • Reluctor clearance?

I'm still having problems with getting a good tach signal. I was brain storming last night and remembered that there was a metal lip that ran around the reluctor, so the mounting tab stood ~1/16" from the block. I couldn't get the reluctor to sit any closer, no matter how I rotated it. Nevertheless, I bolted it in and forgot about it. Could this tab be the cause of my intermittent tach signal? The reluctor was brand new when installed. I retwisted the wires and added a SS shield/ground wire soldered to the ignition module side (NOT terminated on the reluctor).

Should I grind off the reluctor tab? I'll probably need to take the engine out of the car to reach it.

    RE: Reluctor clearance?

I thought to get a Tach singnal is go get it off the ICM..not the timming wheel. Tachs can not interprit the wheel..only the ICM can. Find the wire that feeds the ECM with rpm singnal..and use that wire. I think its the white wire.

      Re: Reluctor clearance?

I'm confused. Did I make it sound that I was running the reluctor directly to the Engine Control Unit? Well, its not. The reluctor is wired to the Ignition Control Module, plus "I retwisted the wires and added a SS shield/ground wire soldered to the ignition module side (NOT terminated on the reluctor)."

Nevertheless, I'm taking (most of) the engine out so I can reach the reluctor. I couldn't find any info about clearance or the tab that keeps the reluctor from siding flush against the block by ~1/16". I'll measure that bitch myself.
