  • Removable chip in a '95???

Okay, I have a guy telling me he took apart his computer the other day (in a '95 3100 powered car) and that it has a removable chip. He says he then called the GM dealership and they said it can be upgraded. Should I call his BS or could this be true? I was under the understanding that '94-'95 had all had a flash-type computer?

The "chip" your friend seen is the knock module.

Also the OBD 1.5 can be reflashed with mix and match data, only at the dealer though.

There is actually a PROM'd 3100 from the factory. I can't remember exactly which car (A-body perhaps?), but it was the only first-run 3100 that was MAF based. I have some of the info on it in my car.... I know it was available in 94, and it might have even been available in 95 as well. But I'd have to agree that the "chip" that was taken out was in fact the knock module.
