  • tgp code in non boosted applications

I have a 3400 out of a 2000 grand am that I am swapping into a fiero. I'm planning on burning my own chips and I have the ecm from an 89 grand prix 3.1. I was initially going to use the code from a 3.1 5-speed as my base for programming, then in about 6 months when my finances built up again, I was going to turbocharge the engine and convert to the tgp code. I was wondering if I would be able to skip a step and just convert my 3400 to a 2-bar map now and use the tgp code without a turbocharger on it. Since it has fuel maps for 1 bar and below anyway it should be alright, right? This would save me from having to redo all my code when I get the turbo on the engine.

yes, you should be able to use it now, however you would want to modify the code A LOT. With no boost my 3.1 doesn't have enough power to hit 5500rpms due to the amount of timing that is pulled that high in the revs. You would want to change the chip a lot for the 3400 engine anyways, as the flow characteristics are completely different. But yes, you can use the chip N/A.
