  • 302 to 730 ecm conversion, now runs bad w/ codes

re-pinned the harness to use a 165 ecm with a 730 memcal and a chip from moates. The bin and xpf are set up for a maf. A few others on thirdgen have also done the swap.

Anyway, the car starts finally (missed one wire when I did the re-pin), but it runs rough, rich, and the fan and ses light stay on. I'm getting codes 21 and 34 (tps and maf related)

The only thing I changed in the bin was 17lb injectors instead of 15, because I have a 3.4 instead of a 2.8.

haven't been here in awhile, but I figured I'd post up here too in case someone has also done this swap.

Just in case it slipped by you, a memcal used for a V8 engine must be used because the backup mode programming is different for memcals across different cylinder configurations. In other words swapping chips across a V8 and 4 cyl memcal would create problems at some point when swapped across engines althought the chip programming remains the same.

Mind you, I'm thinking 302 as in V8 but now it looks like you are speaking of an ecm that ends with digits 302.

wow, Joseph must not be awake...

As long as it's a V6 memcal it should be fine.

Check your wiring diagrams but it sounds like you have a bad ground.

No, just an example of how easy it is to mis interpret when abbreviations and terms with more than one application are used. I caught it.

            yeah I guess I should have said 1227302 v6 and a 1227730 v6 memcal.

Well the TPS code and running fan are fixed. (They both use a dark blue wire, and well you know the rest)

It still runs crappy though and I'm getting a 34 (MAF)

I got the aldl working and I'm getting around 10-12 g/sec for the maf at around 800-1000rpm. I don't know how much it's supposed to have. So it's reading it, but not reading it. I dunno.

I re-pinned back to the 302 and have been driving it for the last week with no problems, and just re-did the swap yesterday with a fresh download of the xdf and bin from moates with a fresh new chip too.
