  • 3400 Tuning - ECM Compatability

I have a 3400 in my rockcrawling buggy that is currently using all the wiring and computer from a '96 Lumina APV. The engine has a decent amount of mods (ported 3500 heads and intake, custom cam, 65mm throttle body, headers) and it runs ok, but not right.

From what I have heard and read, HPT software can not tune my Lumina ECM. Is there any reason I can't swap my ECM out with one from a '97 Grand Prix so it can be tuned?

not sure about the pcm swap... but if you get a DHP powertuner im pretty sure it will work... although i dont know if they support the APV... they deff suport the montes with the 3100 and such.

DHP supports the 97 Venture Van ECM. It has more ram and more tables opened up than 96 ECM's.

I would say the Venture ECM is closer to the lumina than the GP. The GP I think has VATs security and other things that the van likely does not. I'd say pick one up from www.car-parts.com and try it. Or if you can find the pinouts online compare them.

There is 96 beretta and 96 GP both running the 97 venture ECM, so pinouts for the early cars seem to be compatible with the venture ECM.

I looked in to DHP as well and they couldn't do the '96 APV. There are a ton of ECM's on ebay so it shouldn't be much trouble finding a Venture ECM. Hopefully that will work.

We have the same set up in the rock crawler the 3.4L from a 95 Camaro with a PCM from a 95 3.1v6 Lumina. We are having a problem with the VATS by pass from Baker Elontrix. The pin out for the Lumina PCM shows the anti-theft deterent on C23 of the white connector. We put the dark blue wire into C23 from the by pass module the motor starts but will not continue running. Do we have right pin location? The led on the bypass module is on and we are getting 2.5 volts on the dark blue wire with the key on wich is what the pinout diagram shows we should be providing to the PCM. Any help is appreciated.

We figured it out. My 17 year old had read the diagram incorrectly. It us is the blue connector as opposed to the white one. The pin location was correct.
