Good afternoon, everyone. I have for your project-car consideration a complete red 92 Z-34 Lumina 5-SPEED ( 284 transmission ). Asking $1000 for the car. Here are the details:
The Good: Rare car, Clean title, cloth seats in good shape, starts/runs, 5 speed shifts beautifully, clutch operates normally, has rare in-car phone on right side of console (unknown if this was a factory option or aftermarket, very Miami-Vice era. Phone powers up, have not tried to make a call on it though.)
In addition, if you should want, I also have for sale a BRAND NEW GM CRATE 3.4L DOHC (still in crate from GM dealership in MO) that will fit this car (or any other Lumina, Cutlass, or Grand Prix from 91-95, inclding the 95 Monte Carlo). Asking $1500 for the motor alone, or will sell with car for $2200 as a package deal.
The Bad: The car has about 135k on it, and does run, but desperately needs the alternator replaced. The alternator has a shorted diode that will drain the battery in about 3-5 miles (1 shorted diode causes the alternator to actually be an electrical load on the system, rather than maintain the battery's charge). In addition, one of the rear struts is either blown or frozen, makes for a rough ride over bumps. The windshield is intact, but is cracked. Some undercarriage rust (I bought car north of Denver, CO in snow country.) LR Trailing arm has been repaired by some hair-brain redneck who bolted a re-enforcing piece of steel in the center to repair a stress crack, rather than replace the arm itself (much easier). The RR quarter panel forward of the wheel well has been bondo-patched, then painted to match, but the body shop must not have given the bondo any curing time, as it has many cracks that show through the paint as it dried and contracted. Lastly, the tires are old and worn out (3 to 4/32 tread at best).
Just putting this out there for all of you to mull over and decide if you should want a RARE Project car for parts or to easily restore to road-worthy glory. This is the last and best of my project cars that I am getting rid of, I have done very little to it other than look it over since I bought it 2 years ago to be a donor for my 95 GTP 3.4/5speed 284 conversion that I never started. Need to sell, will consider all cash offers.
Serious inquirys please reply through this forum and I will get back to you quickly via e-mail, phone, or posting reply. Thanks!
