  • Iron head and intake porting

    Would someone with experience be willing to port a set of iron heads and a TBI intake? This would be for a 3.1L conversion or a 3.4L swap into a 2.8L equipped Isuzu Trooper using the stock fuel injection.

    How much would you charge for such a service?

    I have a set of iron heads here that were ported out I guess you could say. Its a rough job. Not done by me. Gasket matched and ported on intakes and gasket matched and some porting on the exh. I can send pics. They were on my iron head 3.4 that made 150 whp through a stock intake and 52mm tb.

    Good condition. I wouldnt' mind only getting $50 for them, plus actual shipping.

        I can try to get some posted up here. THey are assembled, crane everything. Roughly 11k miles on the heads and parts.

            I'm sure a lot of people CAN. But who WANTS to?

            I have some junk heads here I could practice on, but I could be doing more harm than good if I don't have the right technique.

              any advice about the hump in the intake runners of the 3.4 camaro heads

                I have seen a turbo car somewhere it was a cavalier that ported the heads and removed the hump. Papers say it loses flow but it probably depends on what application its going to be used in. A boosted motor might make more power with it removed. It doesn't hurt I would suppose to grind them down a bit.

                  Shaving down the hump on a boosted motor is fine but on an NA motor you want to keep it. You can smooth it out a but but don't take a while lot of that away, it improves flow.

                    the only thing i dont get about the is that if it improves flow why isnt it in more heads my personal opnion about the hump is that its there to mix the A/F charge for better emissions i think its the reason 3.4 dies out at around 4500 rpms im going to keep some of it for maybe lower rpm flow

                      The iron heads are just a poor design, that's why they die out in the upper RPMs. The aluminum heads are much better and are a much differnet design.

                        well i finished porting mine today no shark fin at all they flowed 127cfm at .450" lift on the intake and 112cfm at .450" on the exhaust i wasnt able bench them before the port so if anyone knows what they flow stock that would be nice they peaked flow wise at .450" then they started to flow less above .450"
