What cone filter are you guys using on your turbos? I've heard that you "shouldn't" run the cone filter directly on the turbo itself, though I see it done often. If I can run it directly on the turbo, does the cone size matter? Looking to run a filter like this if I can find one. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...l/100_3480.jpg

I'm curious... Why aren't you supposed to run them right on the turbo?

I've run a bunch. The ones I would recommend are K&N, AEM, S&B, and UniFilters. There are other good ones out there, but those are relatively easy to get, come in a wide variety of sizes, and are reusable. I previously ran a Blitz SUS (stainless mesh) air filter that looked a lot like the one in your picture. HKS also makes filters that work well in small spaces.
One thing to worry about is the smaller the filter, the faster it will plug and the more pressure drop you'll have (a bad thing). Strongly consider running a 3" pipe into the fender well and putting the air filter there. I found MUCH better performance and response with a real air filter in the fender well versus a small filter in the engine bay.

lol i run a metal mesh screen over the inlet.... while it does keep small animals and childern out of the turbo, it does restrict the boost. i gain 2psi running open turbo and it spools noticably faster as well. nothing bad will happen running a filter on the turbo, keep an eye on it, if it is damaged or comes apart either way it could suck into the turbo. Dont recommend the sponge "Mushroom" style filters, again the foam can tear and go into the turbo. the turbo does need to breath, the larger the filter the better.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info. I'l let you know what I do for sure. Still fabing up the cross-over and dp.
How much extra oil do you guys run in your engines for the turbo? 1/2 quart, 1 quart? Also what oil do you typically use? Standard, Blend, Full syn?You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

I've run Valvoline Max Life (a syn blend that's mostly synthetic with a lot of wear additives) and 100% synthetic oils.
In terms of extra oil, just make sure your dipstick reads correctly and you'll be fine.

IIRC the car stock calls for 5.5 qts i use a full 6, but i also run the longer Delco PF52 filter or Purolator. I also run Maxlife, i have gone to 10W40. i had some smoke for a while which i think are my valve seals so i moved to a slightly thicker oil. all good.
