ok i have a 91 cavy z24 with a 3400 swap.. the engine has forged 9.5:1 pistons in it.. I believe everything else is stock bottom end wise.. i was wondering whats the next part prone to breaking under heavy boost.. how much boost would i be able to hold with those pistons on a good tune and what would be a good turbo to go with.. and are there after market connecting rods out there for the 3400? just looking for a little input to know what to look for.. thanks..

Transmission... that will be your next weakest point. These engines are pretty stout, so I would look into spending money on the driveline before I worried about much else.-Brad-

Yup. But if you want stronger rods, chevy V8 rods can be machined thinner to fit and there's all kinds of forged options out there for those. But the rods will be fine much longer before your trans caves in...
What psi of boost do you plan on running?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

that turbo is probably way too small for the 3400.
was this the kit that you bought? http://www.v6z24.com/jbodyforum/full...e-t110785.html

X2 on the transmission being the weak point.
With them pistons and a good tune, I can see 600 HP at the crank. Good luck with a trans though.
Get a 60-1 turbo. .70Comp .82 exhaust
They are all over ebay, you can likley mod the X-over pipe and weld in the correct flange for very little work. it might be tight though cause that turbo has a 4" comp. inlet.
Try to get something that won't allow much boost under 3000RPM so you have time to hook up a bit. it will be easier on parts. Actually, my car makes VERY little boost under 3500 RPM and I still break things sometimes, not too often, but when you can you'll want to aquire spare driveline parts. Axles, trannies, ect. I see you welded the diff, good move, that will help reliability a great deal. I was going through trannies left and right cause only one wheel would spin in the waterbox and the diff pin would grenade.
You have to remember when you are one-wheel peeling the wheel is going twice the indicated speed reading, so it's easy for the diff to be going 100+ MPH during a 2nd gear burnout... haha
I forgot to add valve springs ! get good ones. I have the LS6 ones and if I were to do it over I would of got something a tad bit stronger.Last edited by Mars; 10-19-2009, 07:56 PM.11.92 @ 122 MPH 3400 91 Cavalier Z24 Intercooled S/C. -totalled-
