  • Is This Turbo Any Good For The 3.4L DOHC??

Hi, im finally gonna start my project to boost my 3.4L DOHC, now im looking at some turbos and I finally found one I think I want, but since I dont know much about turbos I want you guys professional opinon. Heres what im looking at :

    - Turbonetics 62-1 Turbocharger
    - Dry Center
    - .96 A/R On Center
    - T4 Turbine
    - 360 Degree thrust bearing
    - 4.00" Inlet
    - 2.50" Outlet
    - VSR Balanced
    - Supports 60LBS/Min Or 600 HP
    - 3.5L - 7.5L Engine range
    - Perfect for most 8 cylinders

so thats what im looking at, I dont really know what alot of the specs mean, but I know that the 3.4L DOHC needs alot more air flow than a regular v-6 which is why im looking at this turbo. do you guys think it will work good? please let me know I plan on buying it in the next day so a fast response would be awesome! thanks

.96 on the exhaust will be a little bit laggy, but that thing will make some power on a dohc FOR SURE!

maybe you should look into getting a smaller turbine housing, like .82 a/r. this will help keep spool up a little lower in the rpm range

what do you guys thinks this thing will spool up at ? i do have a 5 speed so i dont really want it to spool at really low rpms because it already spins the tires like crazy on a launch so im probably gonna have to get some big drag radials for racing.

Ok i contacted the company that i got the turbo from, they havent shipped it yet and they have .81 a/r and .68 a/r so i told them to get me a .81 so hopefully that should help.

either way when it does spool it will come in hard. thats a great choice of a turbo. i had a .82 t70 and it spooled around 3500 and it came in HARD. that compressor flows plenty for the dohc.

That's definitely a big turbo for the DOHC, but it should work great (especially if you're shooting for over 400 whp).

That A/R will be fine. That is a big turbo for your engine. What is your HP target? I am running 415 WHP with a Garrett GT3071R. It is a much smaller turbo and I am running a 0.63 ATP turbo housing.

i was hoping for 400 whp , but the more i think about it i doubt i will get it, i have 42 lb/hr ford racing injectors, the turbonetics 62-1 turbo, turbonetics evolution wastegate, turbonetics raptor blow off valve and a 22" long 3" wide same side intercooler.

but i dont want to run any more than 9 psi, i have been advised its not really safe to run any more than 7 psi on a stock motor, because its my daily driver.

but i think 9psi would be ok with the intercooler, but i think to achieve 400whp at 9psi is dreaming,

so i guess as long as i get about 350whp i would be happy.

ok i just contacted turbonetics with the serial number off of the turbo and they say it has a .58 a/r exhaust housing on it. so i went and looked at the stamp in the casting and to me it looks like it says 68 but i guess turbonetics would know better, i guess if you look at it the right way you could make the 6 look like a 5 but honestly if you just look at it you would swear it said 68 .

so now my question is is a .58 a/r exhaust housing to small? heres what turbonetics gave me for specs:

                          p/n 11006 non bb 62-1 Stage V tang undivided 58 a/r

                          Basically means:
                          Compressor: 62-1
                          Turbine: T3 Stage 5
Turbine housing: Tangential undivided housing .58 A/R
                          Center Section: Non-Ceramic Ball Bearing

i hope this housing isnt to small, this turbo already cost ALOT lol i dont want to have to go buy another housing for it.

It should be fine. My suggestion is to try it. If you don't like it, you can always swap it out.
