ok this might confuse u a little so hold on and bare with me

ok so im talkin 2 this guy about super charging my 3.1 in my sunbird, but he says that it won't work cuz of heat. now... i know that there will be extra heat build up, and i haven't thought of a way 2 disipate all that extra heat exept 2 have a themostat open up at al lower temp. and 2 manually contol my rad fan so it stays on when i want it 2. Then he starts talking about me having 4:1 pistons and with that extra heat will swell and ruin the engine (he started 2 talk about the cast block and other stuff but i forget that). And if i put in 3:1 pistons i could run like 40 psi which i don't want 2 cuz i only want like 8 psi. im planing on rebuilding and boring out the cylinders. i know there is more tuning involved.
So i guess my question is what is this guy talkin about espesilly with the 4:1 and 3:1 piston thing. And r turbo grandpirx piston the same as my 1991 3.1 pistons or r they different and if so is it like a dirct swap?

    thanks a lot guys

i've never heard of that 3:1 or 4:1 ratio, wtf lol
i dont think opening the stat sooner will help keep down overall engine temps, letting the fan stay on and come on soon may help.
but you'll need to keep the heat off the intake manifold, you can use an intercooler, if the type of supercharger allows.

why not just go with a turbo, been done lots, and its proven, youll prolly have to fab up everything yourself, and would deffinatly require a good tune

shit man dont bother with the boring and crap unless your pistons and rings or cyl wall is shot.

throw a cam on it, put the turbo on it, tune it

    P:S
i dont know if its a bad relay of information from that guy to you to us, or if that guys just a shit talker ? lol

ya me neither but that i think i got the relay of info pretty accurate i know he did say sumthin about pumpin 40psi in it with 3:1 psitons but he was probly exagerating. oh ya i remembered he mentioned n.o.s. 2 haha ya right i c a reciepy 4 a blown block or sumthin
ya he might be a shit talker he did look prety roughed up and was with sum ppl i know that r drop out and can keep jobs.

i know that opening the stat sooner might not keep it cooler but anything that can help i guess. i read on another thread just now that and oil cooler can help keeping the oil temp down. smart. but i'd have 2 find 1 and make it fit.

i feel more comfortable with a s/c than a t/c right now cuz idk what u need 4 a t/c not 2 blow it up.

1 of my pistons is knocking and i figured that there might be sum major scoring so i have the boring in mind. i'll have 2 remove the oil pan and check if i want 2 know 4 sure before i complety disasemble her.

i've thought about a cam but what would be the best 4 my application (the car is my only 1 so i use it 2 get around and i drive it pretty hard sum times. i like 2 drag it though. i am willing 2 sacrifice sum drivability if it has an affect. and where would be the best place 2 buy 1?

Go with a turbo setup, you will gain much more horsepower and I think maybe it will cost you much more less with a supercharger system.

Hmmm and if you want to use a supercharger system and want to keep the heat of a little upgrade the radiator with a bigger alumin radiator and putting in a intercooler system (air to water)

yea id go with a turbo setup, id be alot easier than a custom sc i think.
i wouldnt spend alot on the block, i know it can add up.
best to get the turbo on a stock ok condition block maybe throw a cam in, then when you blow the motor, you can get a junker good condition block for cheaaaap as hell from bucks auto.

better to spend a hundred bucks on a block from the wreckers once a year or every other year depending on how hard you beat on it
than say spending thousands in a block that will last 2 maybe 3 years.

unless ya got hook ups or can do most of the work yourself, youll save tons of money then
