  • m90 Vs. m62

Im throwing around the idea of supercharging my 3.1. Im looking for a max of 10psi and I was just wondering which would be better/cost efficiant for my setup, the m90 or the m62. Im not looking to have a 10 sec 1/4 mile, Im just looking for a little more pep.

    M90

Even if it has teh ability to run higher than you want, it's better to do so, because the charge won't be heated as much. Better to be in a more effciant region than trying to get more out of something than it can in reality do.

Also you'll want more, once you get a taste, you'll want more, and more and more and....

I also believe the M62 is only god for up to 2.5L displacement IIRC.

you can always keep an eye out on the bonehoards and grab a blower from a Lightning motor, I want to say they're the equivalent to an M90, and a bit smaller, IIRC. I think they can boost upto about 15-17psi, but can be dropped by changing the size of the blower pulley . . .

M90's will be the cheapest and easiest to find. The only advantage the M62 has is that it'll squeeze into tighter spaces.

Eatons website says that the m62 is for 2.5-4.0L and the m90 is for 3.0-5.0L. What psi is the m90 with the stock pulley? or is that something that is engine specific?
Ive been reading and leaning more twards the m90, if I go this way, but I just wanted to get some input.

boost depends largly on displacment. at a given rpm, it will make more boost on a small motor than a large motor. here is the formula:

            drive ratio X blower displacement X 25.58 / Engine CID – 14.7

that being said, id go with an m90. it will make boost quicker and has more potential. the only downside is it takes a bit more power to drive, however that can easily be overcome with a smaller pully.

btw: the lightning came with an eaton m112, a lot bigger than an m90. and even so, finding a lightning motor in the junkyard, let alone one that the place will let you take the blower off of, is extremly slim.

hmmm . . . didn't realize it was that big; guess it's been a while since I've seen a blown 3800. Damn skippy on that bonehoard comment, though - there are those that specialize in certain things, though, which was what I was getting at (shoulda been more specific )

Nope. This would be done on a Camaro, so I was planning on mounting it over one of the valve covers and keep the stock hood. But Im still not 100% on what kind of turbo/SC I want yet. Just checking out/narrowing my options.
