  • Running with supercharger disengaged

    Got a 99 Regal GS,
would like to know if I will trip any SES's or do any damage to the engine while driving if I remove the supercharger belt until I have time to replace the supercharger ?

Might throw a code, but definitely shouldnt hurt your engine

I heard people do that some times. Doesn't seem like it would hurt it. Might make it runs a little funny... who knows.

yeah if your cool with the 8.5 compression ratio and if the computer knows that the extra air isnt entering the engine

Would pulling air past stopped supercharger impellers cause a significant flow restriction?

It will not hurt the engine...enjoy the lack of power. By the way, WHY do you plan on doing this?(I'm asking out of curiosity). Oh yeah, this is a 60* V6 board, you own a 90* V6....so you will find more relative info/more help over at clubgp.com or the w-body.com board(not being a dick, just trying to be informative..)

Air cannot get past the impellers, its why it has the ability to compress. There is a bypass valve in the rear of the blower. Say hello to a 35mm'ish throttle plate.

I know on our small block chevy, the motor alone pulls enough air to turn the rotors with vacuum on a Weind 142 blower.

But doesn't the supercharger on a L67 run off of the serpentine belt? If so, don't remove the belt. It will stop the alternator from charging, the water pump from pumping, AC, and everything else.

The engine will turn the rotors itself with the vacuum, therefore sucking air in, but there will be an EXTREME lack of power. It would have low compression, a VERY restrictive intake, and a computer thats giving it way too much fuel, so you really wouldn't want to drive it like that. It wont hurt anything since the supercharger runs off a seperate belt than all of the other accessories, but I don't understand WHY you want to take the belt off... What exactly is wrong with the car???

You said you need to replace the supercharger...why? M90's outlast the lift of 3800's other than the coupler, which is cheap and easy to replace. So I can't see why you would need to replace the blower...if its making boost WTF is wrong with it???

What are you replying to? If you are talking about the belt, I can guaruntee you the supercharger has its own belt and all the other accessories are run off the other belt. I would bet large sums of money on it actually. Now the Series I L67's were a different story...but his is a Series II, they are a lot different.
